GCSE Mathematics Data-Handling Tool (DHT)

Why do I have problems installing the software on an RM Community Connect server?

Instructions for installation of software on an RM CC3 server:

  • Copy the contents of the CDR to the central location of the server, i.e. ‘RMPublic’
  • Log on to the workstation as ‘Systemadmin’
  • Click on ‘Start’ : ‘My Computer’ : ‘RMPublic’
  • Open the folder containing the DHT software
  • Click on ‘Setup.exe’

If the Microsoft .NET Framework is not present on the workstation, installation of the .NET Framework will start…

  • Accept the .NET licence agreement
  • Click on ‘Ok’
  • Click on ‘Ok’ again to complete the installation of the .NET Framework (installation of the DHT will now take place)
  • Click on ‘Next’
  • Accept the default location of the folder
  • Make sure you select ‘Everyone’ so that other people can use the program
  • Click on ‘Next’ : ‘Next’
  • Click on ‘Close’
  • Click on ‘Ok’

The only network issues received so far have been in connection with the RM Community Connect setup specific to one or two centres.  It appears that the problem is with the ‘.msi’ file location, which requires that the administrator appropriately install the file and build/customise an installation shortcut for the installation process.  Please contact RM Support for technical assistance.

The DHT was designed as stand-alone machine software, meaning that network testing was limited to the Microsoft range of products.  On the basis of affordability, the decision was made to allow multiple users on a single licence, i.e. per registered centre rather than per person.

Why does only a portion of the options screen appear on my desktop? Why does my screen go blank when I run the DHT?

This is a screen resolution/size issue.  Please check your screen/monitor settings and check compatibility with the hardware requirements on page 2 of the CD-ROM booklet supplied with the product.

Why are there errors in the Mayfield sample data?

The database has been designed to incorporate human error that commonly occurs throughout the data-capture process.  In preparing students for this eventuality through their investigation, use and sampling of data, it will allow them to comment on irregularities, make refinements/corrections and draw conclusions.

There are also line/row, column, data, field type and spelling errors incorporated into this sample data, but are of reasonably low frequency and all capable of quick correction using standard
formatting techniques.

You are also limited to an import of 3 columns and 1000 rows as sample data.

Why are there apparent calculation, data or graph errors when removing outliers from example data?

When removing outliers from data you must save those changes using the “Save this data” option on the Data Entry page.  Return to the Data Entry page and reload the data you have saved.  This will ensure that the calculations and diagrams that you ask the DHT to perform are correct for that set of data.
